Alone: the subject works in isolation
Coaction: the subject works along with one other person
Audience: the subject works under the observation of one other person
Low: subjects are not given instructions beyond those necessary to understand the task, satisfying the course requirement is the only reward
High: subjects are told that on the basis of their academic records (which the experimenter has not seen), poor performance would be surprising. Additionally, the researcher promises a monetary bonus for superior performance.
